Well, friends and neighbors, my apology for the lack of updates. We had a terrific time at the yearly Teddy Bear Picnic and Parade; Grant's 4th, Kit's first. Independence Day brought the first time Grant really enjoyed the parade on Main Street and the fireworks. It was all great fun. However, my handy-dandy digital camera once again dumped ALL of the photos I took of those days. There were some great ones: Grant looking like a painted clown with bright red ice cream all over his face, Kit in the wagon with the stuffed animals for her first parade, Grant playing on a neighbor's huge blow-up water slide, even some of Kit getting a bath in the bathroom sink. I am still angry and grieving over the loss of those pics, and I guess it kept me from updating things here. I kept thinking there might be some way to recover those pictures, so didn't even use the camera for a while... sigh. Sad. Anyhoo, here are a few pics as our summer begins to wrap up... |

I took the kids for an outing to Stolley Park. There is a huge play structure, 3 smaller play structures, a wading pool, and, yes, a TRAIN!! Grant enjoyed running around on the play structures, and he had a blast playing in the wading pool, but there ain't nothing compares to riding a train. As we stood before the ticket window before our first ride, Grant was literally jumping for joy at the prospect of our ride, saying "Train, train, TRAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIN!", over and over again. Kit didn't have such a great day; she hasn't yet mastered the art of sleeping on the go, so wasn't too interested in anything but snuggling up with Momma for a nap somewhere. And that was not in the cards this day ! |
As a matter of fact, Grant had such fun that we returned two days later, for a quick ride before continuing on to the Water Park for the first time. Grammy came along to help care for Kit, so I was able to go in the water with Grant, which in turn allowed him to do all but the very highest of the slides. It was so great to watch Grant experience all this and really enjoy it. He went down even the big-people slides all by himself, and loved every second of it. It was really great, and I am trying hard to schedule one more water park day, with Daddy this time, so Grant can revel in it all again before he starts school. Grammy and Kit didn't get in the water at all, so when Kit needed me, Grant had to take a break too, which was a drag for him. If all four of us go, Daddy and I can trade off with the kids so they each get some of our attention. The park also had this little "Lazy River" section that was set up like "tubing" in a slow, winding river. I think all four of us could enjoy that together, and Grant wanted to spend hours there too! I'd like to do more things with the four of us together. I think Grant would like it too. Sorry there are no pics of us at the Water Park. I was too busy and wet for that!! |

| A very s-l-o-o-o-o-w train ride that proved Grant just loves trains, no matter what. |

His first roller coaster ride. He had a great time on this one! |

A couple of quick snaps of Kit in the family room. I think she may be one of those babies who never crawls. She moves around the floor in a slow, nearly stealth, sort of way. You can put her on the floor and watch, and not see her actually move at all, but after a few minutes she will be on a different area of the floor! She doesn't seem interested in crawling, but she works on standing up every chance she gets. She doesn't yet have the balance to do it without support, but she does kneel on the floor without her hands touching anything, so she's getting close!
She's been doing the hand-sign for "nurse" for a month or so now, and a few days ago she did a new sign for her: "all done". The next time she did the new sign, she vocalized with it: 'duh' (done). So, some would say that her first word (other than momma and daddy) was "Done". I never know how to gauge these things. Grant said "duck" clear as day when he was about eight months old, then didn't speak again for a year. So. I've just decided to record what happens, and let the reader decide!
We have been taking lots of videos, and I am working on getting them posted here or on a free site. I'll keep you posted!! |
